Awakening a Witch #7 - Six Sentence Sunday

Happy November 25th!  Not only is it my birthday - I'm putting in a request for a cupcake that is more icing than cake - but it is also the Canadian Football League's Grey Cup. (Go, Stamps, Go!)

Six Sentence Sunday: Over the last few weeks, I've been highlighting some excerpts from my historical paranormal romance work-in-progress, Awakening A Witch. Click here to read earlier posts.

Set Up: I'm skipping ahead from the last excerpt.  Alex decided to keep Mattie prisoner, but in the night she managed to escape - Alex's guards were too scared to try to stop a strange witch.  She tried to return to her family, but she kept getting turned around in the woods and a fierce storm.  Mattie had just accepted that her best option was to return to Alex - if she only could find her way back to him - when...

My Six (these are in Mattie's POV):
Illuminated by another strike of lightning, the approaching figure was immediately recognizable.  He was cloaked in black, his face hidden under a hood, but Mattie knew it was Alex.
He'd chased her, and she'd been caught.
The tension and fear she'd been fighting for the past two hours broke, sending tremors through her body.  She would be saved from the storm.
But who would rescue her from her rescuer?

Awakening A Witch #6 - Six Sentence Sunday

Set Up: I'm skipping ahead a bit from the last excerpt.  Alex has taken her to his home, and is trying to decide what to do with her: should he keep her prisoner or let her go?  (He really doesn't trust witches.)  Mattie doesn't know she is a witch yet.

My Six (these are in Alex's POV):
She went to the window and leaned out, as if gauging the distance to the earth below.  Could she fly? He couldn't let her escape his questions so easily, so Alex rose and followed her.
The sun was setting, and the moon's silvery silhouette shone just over the horizon.
He leaned over her until his lips nearly touched her ear. "Are you drawing strength from the moon?"

Awakening a Witch #5 - Six Sentence Sunday

My Poppy
Today is Remembrance Day, and we always observe the day by attending a ceremony in our community. I'm proud of my honey, who is a veteran, and I'm thankful to everyone who has served.

Therefore, I will not making Six Sentence Sunday rounds on Sunday - we'll be spending the day with family, friends and other veterans instead - but I promise to visit after that!  :)

Set Up: When Mattie's necklace comes loose and falls to the earth, a strange fatigue falls over her.  As her legs collapse beneath her, Alex (our hero) catches her.  Tom is Alex's younger brother.

My Six:
"Look at this," Tom said, awe coating his words as he dangled a necklace with a horrendously familiar shape and construction.  "It's hers."
Although his heart thudded like a war drum in his chest, Alex tempered his reaction. "Are you sure?"
"Aye, it fell off her just before she fainted."
Alex glanced at the unconscious woman in his arms - was he holding a witch?
